Welcome!

Nathaniel Finger

Bio

I am a mathematician by training with extensive experience in computer science. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in May, 2016, with a B.A. in Mathematics.

I have three years of experience in the data science and programming field. As a result, I have honed my analytical skills, as well as developed the ability to successfully assess a challenge and design a strategy to accomplish the task at hand. As a programmer, my passion is to build prolific mathematical models, which generate meaningful data. I love the idea of pushing the limitations of an algorithm and decrypting its output to unlock its true potential and effect actual change in a project’s outcome.

Experience

Research Assistant

  • Writing in many different programming languages, created an accurate model of the effect of micro RNA on the stability of a system.
  • Assisted M.D./Ph.D. students in constructing equations to provide meaningful and impactful results, which provided insight into the true nature of the relatively new discovery of micro RNA.
  • The mathematics that we utilized included the concepts of:
    • Linear Algebra
    • Stochastic Calculus
    • Advanced Calculus
    • Probability Theory

Directed Reading Program

Program in which undergraduate students are paired with graduate student mentors for semester-long independent study projects. Furthered my academic interest in the field of nonlinear dynamic systems.

Byte Academy

Attended Byte Academy, a 5 days per week, 12 hours per day coding bootcamp located in New York city, a coding bootcamp that offers intensive industry focused programs. During my coursework, I focused on full-stack programming using Python code that is widely concentrated in the FinTech and Data science fields.

Projects And Publications

Finger Toy Soldiers

I designed an e-commerce website in order to facilitate the sales of my grandfather's illustrious toy soldier collection.

MiRNA Study

Undertook a study focused on the relationship between structure and dynamics of gene regulatory networks utilizing three different mathematical frameworks including generalized Boolean networks, ordinary differential equations, and Markov chains in an attempt to understand how the introduction of certain feedforward loop motifs affect the ability of networks to tolerate different levels of noise while retaining their attractor structure.
